The blood vessels to the ovary are located in this stalk. The twisting cuts off the blood supply to the ovary, causing the ovary to possibly die. The Fallopian tube can also be involved in the twist. Ovarian torsion is the fifth most common emergency of the female reproductive organs. Sometimes a mass or cyst in the ovary can cause twisting.
